Count the movements
The SOGC count: lie down, preferably in the evening, and count your baby’s movements for up to two hours. If you feel fewer than six, contact your care provider as soon as possible. Daily counts are advised from 26–32 weeks when a pregnancy has risk factors; anyone can count when the baby seems to move less.
Go now, or call, if
- your waters break
- you are bleeding
- your baby is moving less, or you no longer feel them move
In an emergency, call 911 (in Nunavut, your community health centre).

Your midwife’s or doctor’s instructions come first. This tool counts; it does not assess you or your baby.
