01Who is responsible
The Childhood Journal is operated by Maison GR, Québec City, Québec, Canada, which is responsible for your personal information.
Person in charge of the protection of personal information: the President of Maison GR, reachable at hello@maisongr.com.
02What we collect
- Account: name, email, password (stored hashed), language, province or territory.
- Pregnancy and children (sensitive, with your consent only): first names, due date or birth date, birth details, allergies and medical notes you enter, timeline entries (milestones, measurements, appointments, symptoms, notes, photos), and the questions you ask with their answers.
- Usage: number of questions per day and subscription status.
- Payment: handled by Stripe. We never see or store your card number.
- Questions for the public Q&A (with your agreement to publication): the question you send, with email addresses, phone numbers, web addresses and postal codes removed before it is stored, its topic, your language and province. A person rewrites it so it identifies no one before anything is published; your own words, your account and your province are never shown. You can withdraw a question at any time from the questions page, published or not. If the moderator asks the AI for a first draft, the question (contact details already removed, with no account or name) is sent to Anthropic; the draft is never published as it is. Questions that are not published are deleted after 6 months.
- Partner requests: if you write to us from the partners page, the professional details you send (name, email, organization, province, interests, message): read only by The Childhood Journal’s team to review your request, and deleted 12 months after our last exchange unless you become a partner.
- The arrival checklist runs entirely in your browser: what you answer there is never sent to us.
03Why, and on what basis
- To provide the service you signed up for: your account, the timeline, and answers that take your child’s history into account.
- To manage your plan and subscription and send account emails (welcome, password reset, billing).
- To keep the service secure and working.
Pregnancy and child health information is processed only with your express consent, asked separately from the terms (Québec Law 25, s. 12). Account and billing information is processed to provide the service you subscribed to.
The AI writes answers; it never takes decisions about you. A deterministic safety check, written and reviewed as code, decides when to show emergency guidance: not the AI.
04What the AI sees
Answers are written by Anthropic’s Claude model. For each question we send the question, the recent conversation and a short summary of your child’s profile and timeline: with your child’s first name replaced by a placeholder. The name is put back only on our servers, as the answer reaches you.
Under Anthropic’s commercial terms, data sent through its API is not used to train its models.
05Service providers and where your data goes
We share information only with providers who need it to run The Childhood Journal, under contracts that bind them to protect it:
- Anthropic (AI answers): United States.
- MongoDB Atlas (database) and Render (hosting).
- Stripe (payments).
- Our email provider, for account emails.
Some of these providers process information outside Québec, including in the United States. Before communicating personal information outside Québec, Maison GR assesses the privacy impact and the protection it will receive (Law 25, s. 17).
We never sell your information and never use it for advertising.
06How long we keep it
- Everything is kept while your account is open, so the record of your child’s years stays intact.
- Withdrawing health consent deletes the children’s profiles, timelines and your questions immediately.
- Deleting your account deletes all of it from our database immediately. Copies in our hosting provider’s backups expire on its backup cycle.
- Billing records are kept by Stripe as tax law requires.
07Your rights, and how to use them
- Access and portability: Settings → Privacy → Export my data downloads everything we hold, in JSON.
- Correction: edit your profile, your children and your timeline directly.
- Withdrawal: Settings → Privacy → Withdraw consent.
- Deletion: Settings → Privacy → Delete my account.
For anything else, or if you cannot sign in, write to hello@maisongr.com. We answer within 30 days.
You may complain to the Commission d’accès à l’information du Québec, or, outside Québec, to the Office of the Privacy Commissioner of Canada or your province’s privacy commissioner where a provincial law applies.
08Children
The Childhood Journal is for parents and caregivers aged 18 or over. Children do not use it. Information about a child is entered by their parent, who consents to it on the child’s behalf (Law 25, s. 4.1).
09Security and incidents
Data is encrypted in transit, passwords are hashed, and access is limited to what each part of the service needs. Maison GR keeps a register of confidentiality incidents; if an incident presents a risk of serious harm, we notify the Commission d’accès à l’information, the affected people and, where federal law requires it, the Office of the Privacy Commissioner of Canada.
11Changes
If we change how health information is used, we ask for your consent again before using it under the new terms. Other changes are announced in the app and by email.
