01 · Week 4 → birth

Pregnancy

Every week from 4 to 42: what is growing, what you may feel, what to ask at the next appointment. And the warning signs (reduced movement, bleeding) answered with the number to call, before anything else.

On the timelineWeek 12 · first scan, everything in its place

02 · 0 → 3 months

Newborn

The fourth trimester, at any hour. A night mode with no blue light for the 3 am feed, and a fever under three months is treated as the emergency it is, every time.

On the timelineDay 9 · back to birth weight

03 · 3 → 12 months

Baby

The firsts go on the timeline as they happen (the first purée, the first tooth, the first night through) with the measurements from each visit beside them.

On the timeline6 months · first spoonful of carrot

04 · 1 → 3 years

Toddler

Big feelings and first words. Ask about the third tantrum this week and the answer already knows about the new daycare: because it remembers what you told it.

On the timeline2 years · “again!”, forty times

05 · 3 → 6 years

Preschool

Independence, friendships, getting ready for school. The questions get harder; the record of who your child has been so far makes the answers fit them.

On the timeline4 years · rode without training wheels

06 · 6 → 12 years

School age

Homework, friendships, a first phone. Where other apps stopped years ago, the same record keeps going, and still remembers the preemie who needed corrected age.

Teen

Identity, independence, staying connected. The Childhood Journal stays on the parent’s side, and if a question mentions self-harm, the crisis line for where you live comes first.

It
remembers.

Everything you note (the birth, the measurements, the daycare start, last week’s worry) goes onto one timeline. Before answering, The Childhood Journal reads the part that matters. A general assistant answers a stranger. The Childhood Journal answers about your child.

Amine’s timeline

  1. Mar 14Started daycare, mornings only
  2. Feb 02Dairy allergy confirmed by the pediatrician
  3. Jan 20Asked about night waking
  4. Aug 2025Born at 34 weeks · 2.3 kg

He’s waking up at night again. Is that normal?

It often is, and the timing fits. Starting daycare in March is one of the most common reasons sleep slips for a few weeks.

Since Amine was born at 34 weeks, compare him with his corrected age, not his birthday: about six weeks younger for sleep milestones.

What to try first: keep the bedtime routine identical on daycare days and at home.

The code first.
The AI after.

Some questions are emergencies: a fever in a baby under three months, a pregnancy with no movement, blue lips. Every question is checked against rules written and reviewed as code: if one matches, the emergency card comes first, with the right numbers for your province or territory. The AI only reinforces it. A language model never decides whether an emergency is an emergency.

My 6-week-old has a fever of 38.4. Can I wait until morning?

This card is produced by The Childhood Journal’s actual safety code.

For the 3 am feed, a light that wakes no one.

Night mode takes out every trace of blue light and every white surface: a warm near-black, and amber text that still reads at 13 : 1 with half-closed eyes. It can also follow the clock: night from 10 pm to 6 am.

What parents ask us.

Is The Childhood Journal a doctor?

No. It gives general, evidence-based information and keeps your family’s record. It never diagnoses, never suggests medication or doses, and never estimates the risk of your particular pregnancy or child. For a symptom, ask your doctor, midwife or pediatrician.

What happens in an emergency?

If a question describes a possible emergency, The Childhood Journal shows the emergency card first, with the numbers for your province or territory: 911, your nurse line, the poison centre, the 988 crisis line. In Nunavut, where there is no 911, it says so and tells you who to call instead. It cannot call for help for you: if in doubt, call first.

Is it really free?

Yes, for good: your child’s timeline, the trackers, the Canada guide, the tools and 3 questions a day, with no card. Pro adds more questions, more children and the family features. The emergency card is never behind a paywall.

Who can see what I write?

You. Answers are written by an AI provider bound by contract, which receives the question and a summary of the timeline: never your child’s first name, and never for training. We do not sell or advertise.

Can I leave with my data?

Yes. Settings lets you download everything as a file, or delete your account and all its data, yourself and at once.

Several children?

Pro holds up to 3 children, each with their own timeline and their own pencil colour.

Which languages?

French, English, Spanish and Arabic: the app, the answers, the emergency cards and the emails. More will follow, for the communities that make Canada.

The first season

A due date or a birthday is enough to begin. Everything after that, The Childhood Journal remembers.
